About Daddy’s Farm Series

Each book in Deb Hamel’s “Daddy Series” describes a father introducing something new to his young daughter about nature, wildlife, and the outdoors in a loving, patient way.

Something he enjoys, and they could do together for a lifetime!  Experiences a child is never going to grow out of, and something that never ends — spending time together and watching the seasons go from one to another.

Daddy’s Farm Series

DEBBER VISITS AN ILLINOIS GRAIN FARM

Eight year old Debber loves learning about the places she visits and lives. Mommy and Daddy just bought land in Illinois, with a big “turkey foot” pond. She has seen farms in New England, but is not used to seeing farms that don’t have many cows and other farm animals. While visiting Kermicle Farms with Daddy, Debber learns all about soybean, corn and wheat farming. Farmer Dave teaches Debber all about the way these crops are grown and harvested. She is surprised to learn that soybeans, wheat and corn are used for far more than just the food we eat. Debber doesn’t come across any cows, but she gets to meet some cats, dogs and horses...and a little pink Princess bike that she really wants to take for a ride.

DEBBER LEARNS ABOUT TRACTORS & FARM EQUIPMENT

Debber has done a lot of traveling in her eight years, but she’s never seen tractors and farmland as big as what she sees near her family’s new piece of land in Illinois.

Her Daddy takes her to Alliance Tractor in Newton, Illinois to see many of the large pieces of farm machinery up close. First Debber learns that crops grown and livestock raised in the “Heartland of America” feed not only the United States but the World. She learns about the planting cycle, how important watching the weather is and how much hard work farmers do. Debber also finds out how tractors and other farm machinery help with the hard work of farming. She sees and learns about tractors, combines, seeders, planters and sprayers, as well as the many attachments of some equipment (like headers and sickles). Debber and Daddy make even a trip to a tractor store fun and educational.
