The Author

Deb Hamel writes about the outdoors, nature, wildlife and hunting in The Great North Woods of New Hampshire in her '‘Daddy’s Hunting Series”. **EXCITING NEWS: Two additional books will be added to this Series in Summer of 2023, “DEBBER FINDS AN ANTLER” & “THE DAY WE SAW THE MOOSE”.

“Daddy’s Fishing Series” currently contains three books, two are based on fishing on The Nature Coast of Florida on the Homosassa & Chassahowitzka Rivers & Crystal River & Kings Bay. The third book in this Series is about a family trip to Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

Hamel introduces her brand new third Series, “Daddy’s Farm Series” which will debut in the Summer of 2024. This Series is about grain farming in the Midwest — specifically southern Illinois. The first book, DEBBER VISITS AN ILLINOIS GRAIN FARM is about Debber visiting and learning about a fifth-generation grain farm. Based on an actual family and an actual visit. The second book in this Series debut is entitled, DEBBER LEARNS ABOUT TRACTORS & FARM MACHINERY, with a wealth of vivid illustrations depicting combines, tractors, and implements involved in grain farming. Perhaps one of the most in-depth books of Hamel wherein she describes the tractors and farm machinery all children love to see — but here, they learn what they are about.

Each of her books is educational, entertaining, and written with love.

Due to two previous strokes, Deb has a new way of looking at the world and has learned to enjoy each moment.

All of Deb Hamel’s books are based on the real-life adventures of Deb and her Husband Doug over the years!

Testimonials

These delightful stories of a little girl named Deb and her Dad introduce hunting in a gentle and informative way. Through the eyes of an inquisitive girl, the stories explain how to safely use a bow and arrow and what a day hunting is like.

The books help pass down the tradition of hunting to the next generation. Even if you don’t hunt, you will delight in hearing why Daddy doesn’t pack chips in his lunch when he’s hunting and wonder at the detail of how to use a bow and arrow.
— Educator News from NH Fish & Game
Topics like this, especially written by superb authors like Hamel, stoke the fuel for our foundation’s mission of preserving and protecting New Hampshire’s great outdoor traditions. When we educate our youth, we open up decades of future enjoyment of our wild lands and creatures.
— Wildlife Heritage Foundation of NH
These books will help pass on the tradition of hunting to the next generation. Hunting is a deep-rooted foundation base in American history. Celebrating that through these children’s books isn’t just heart-warming, it is essential.

DADDY BOUGHT ME A BOW AND SOME ARROWS is a great children’s book! I love the beautiful watercolor illustrations in this book. The message conveyed, both in color and in print, is that archery is harder than it looks, but is rewarding and fun!
— JOHN WILLIAMS - 1972 Olympics gold medal winner archery champion – Munich, West Germany. The first Olympic archery medal in 52 years. 1972 World Field Champion.
The DADDY BOUGHT ME A BOW AND SOME ARROWS book was very educational. It is so important for young shooters and hunters to learn safety and then about their equipment and proper form. Then they can have a lifetime of fun and enjoyment.
— R. Wood, Fall Mountain Archery Club
Love how you take the perspective from Debber. Females play a very important role in the growth of our hunting heritage and helping young girls feel more involved in the outdoors is a win win!

FALL AT CAMP — Actually, anytime at Camp was my favorite time! The people that it has brought together over the years, the friendships, hunting, and laughter. The Camp, the view that you see on the cover of the book, everything about the place it’s like the closest thing to God here on earth! Twenty years ago, when we built it, we said, “someday we will be old men in rocking chairs looking at this view, I will repeat myself and you won’t remember that I’ve already said the story twice.” And here we are, all these years later, doing just that!
