PART 6 – ‘HOW I WENT FROM HIGH HEELS & PEARLS…to camo!”

"The Taxidermy Place"

(MORE OF DEB’S BLABBINGS about learning about hunting, wildlife and the outdoors – that no one really gives a rat's ass about...from a non-hunter's point of view.)

Boy oh boy....do I have a story to write about ... my first ever visit to a taxidermy shop. Remember, I'm not a hunter, first year I've participated in this Sport. He started me on tree stand with 300-pound bears below me looking up. Who does that? I'm a shopper, a native NYer, a talker and I wear perfume and pearls ... I'm just trying to learn what makes my boyfriend tick about this whole hunting bow and arrow stuff. I'm learning he's a little obsessed, but also learning how groovy most of this is! I refuse to wear that No Scent and Downwind stuff. I like to name all the deer and bears I see. And don't even get me started on that stupid grunt tube thing.

Anyway, taxidermy.... I got the full tour. I saw many different stages of the process.  I saw A LOT...and didn't run away or get sick!  Who knew!!!  It really is quite an art!  Great guy, the owner- Scott Howard-a true American Patriot!  He let me ask a ton of questions AND..he knows and digs Ted Nugent!

On our way back to Olney, Doug asked what I want for dinner... I said, "NO MEAT!  NOT TONITE ANYWAYS", especially after seeing all the 'stuff' and looking in the Butcher place through the open garage door. Was a cool visit, learned a lot.  Really wanted one gorgeous fur with stripes ... a Wildebeest from Africa.  Also saw a zebra that I tried to barter for. Thought fer sure I saw a camel mount but was told it was a girl moose.  Sow?

And no "Hunting Trip" is complete (I guess?!?) without a close encounter ... Mine? I held Devin's 8+/- point buck mount, from his last hunt here, on my lap on ride home in truck ... Doug hands it to me like it's an everyday occurrence, yeah...thanks. You can poke someone's eye out with that thing.... like Ralphie in 'A Christmas Story!' I was holding the horns like I was driving a sled.  No way I'm holding that deer head all the way back to Vermont!  Yup, honeymoons over. you owe me Chief.
