 Daddy’s Hunting Series

Deb Hamel’s writing debut hit the shelves in the Summer of 2022 with not just one children's book, but a series of books “DADDY’S HUNTING SERIES”!

Each book in Daddy’s Hunting Series describes a father introducing something new to his young daughter about nature, wildlife, and the outdoors in a loving, patient way.

Something he enjoys, and they could do together for a lifetime!  Experiences a child is never going to grow out of, and something that never ends -- spending time together and watching the seasons go from one to another.

This series is sure to touch not only the child, but you, the adult reader, as you recall bonding experiences when you were Debber's age, with an adult who spent their time to teach you something because they loved you.

Every time Debber & Daddy go out, they learn something new, the child thinks it's fun at the time, while the adult realizes each situation builds a foundation and stays with the child forever.

Each book in the series is engaging, exciting, and educational.  They cover topics from bears, raccoons, moose, and even antlers! A book on favourite things at Camp, visiting an Outfitter, and planting a clover food plot.  One book is a beautiful lesson about foliage, and there is one about Daddy's hunting story. The book about Daddy buying Debber a bow and arrow has such a depth of discussion on the nuances of archery, it is amazing how understandable and fun it is for any age.

You will feel good teaching your children using this series, and my books will touch your heart in a nostalgic warm way as well!  Young children are like sponges soaking up learning easily, with an inquisitive nature, asking question after question …and Debber is that child!

DEBBER FINDS A DEER ANTLER

Eight-year-old Debber is so excited to find a deer antler in the woods surrounding her family’s northern New Hampshire hunting camp. Her Daddy is also excited about the find. Little Debber learns all about deer and moose antlers from her Daddy, and her own silly interpretations help make his explanations even clearer to young readers. Dressed with her usual flair, Debber goes on an adventure in the woods with her Daddy to see if they can find more antlers. Daddy helps to instill in Debber an awe of Nature. Moose and deer populate Debber’s dreams after her cool discovery.

THE DAY WE SAW THE MOOSE

After a day of shopping in downtown Colebrook, New Hampshire, Debber and Daddy go home and get to work on clearing up debris from a recent storm. Working on the trails around the hunting camp, they hear the unmistakable sounds of a moose walking through the forest. Daddy teaches eight-year-old Debber all about moose and explains how large they (and their antlers) are. Debber is excited to learn that both of her Parents have seen moose. Mommy even saw one in Moose Alley, not too far from home on the way to Errol. She and Daddy plan an outing to Moose Alley, and along the way Daddy teaches Debber about respecting Nature. After the trip to Moose Alley, Debber dreams of a fashionable, friendly moose.

Daddy’s Farm Series

Hamel introduces her brand new third Series, “Daddy’s Farming Series” which will debut in Spring/Summer of 2024!! This Series is about grain farming in the Midwest — specifically southern Illinois.

The first book, DEBBER VISITS AN ILLINOIS GRAIN FARM is about Debber visiting and learning about a fifth-generation grain farm. Based on an actual family and an actual visit.

The second book in this Series debut is entitled, DEBBER LEARNS ABOUT TRACTORS & FARM MACHINERY, with a wealth of vivid illustrations depicting combines, tractors, and implements involved in grain farming. Perhaps one of the most in-depth books of Hamel wherein she describes the tractors and farm machinery all children love to see — but here, they learn what they are about.

Debber Visits A Grain Farm

Debber Visits A Grain Farm

Eight-year-old Debber loves learning about the places she visits and lives. Mommy and Daddy just bought land in Illinois, with a big “turkey foot” pond. She has seen farms in New England but is not used to seeing farms that don’t have many cows and other farm animals. While visiting Kermicle Farms with Daddy, Debber learns all about soybean, corn and wheat farming. Farmer Dave teaches Debber all about the way these crops are grown and harvested. She is surprised to learn that soybeans, wheat and corn are used for far more than just the food we eat. Debber doesn’t come across any cows, but she gets to meet some cats, dogs and horses...and a little pink Princess bike that she really wants to take for a ride.

Debber Learns About Tractors & Farm Equipment

Debber Learns About Tractors & Farm Equipment

Debber has done a lot of traveling in her eight years, but she’s never seen tractors and farmland as big as what she sees near her family’s new piece of land in Illinois.

Her Daddy takes her to Alliance Tractor in Newton, Illinois to see many of the large pieces of farm machinery up close. First Debber learns that crops grown and livestock raised in the “Heartland of America” feed not only the United States but the World. She learns about the planting cycle, how important watching the weather is and how much hard work farmers do. Debber also finds out how tractors and other farm machinery help with the hard work of farming. She sees and learns about tractors, combines, seeders, planters and sprayers, as well as the many attachments of some equipment (like headers and sickles). Debber and Daddy make even a trip to a tractor store fun and educational.
